What is AVID?
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. So, what is an AVID Elementary? What can Robert Sanders Elementary provide for your children as such a school?
Throughout the day, we embed "best practices" for all students. We teach our students how to be thoughtful in their organizing and learning. With a philosophy on learning, we utilize AVID methodologies and strategies in a self-contained, multi-subject classroom.
Framework
There will be a focus on the following aspects:
Organization
We encourage the usage of planners/agendas, binders/organizational tools, time management, and goal setting. Students will learn how to be ready anywhere, anytime.
WICOR Strategies
WICOR stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading. Our teachers use WICOR strategies for rigorous instruction.
Student Success Skills
Speaking and studying are core skills that can be nurtured no matter how old you are. Cultivating them at an early age empowers students with their own voice, instilling curiosity that's critical to their learning journey.
Partnerships
Students will be connected with not just their school, but the school's district, their home and environment, and community.
